Who are we?

John Heffernan
Managing Director
1. Tell us a little bit about your background
My interest in engineering started in my childhood as a teenager building a model of a steam locomotive in my bedroom using a lathe purchased by saving my pocket money. After failing my A levels I worked as a locksmith designing a number of locksmith tools during this time before resuming study attending the University of Westminster where I achieved a degree with first class honours in mechanical engineering.
2. Tell us a little bit about your role in Aladdin
I founded NLB in 2002 after designing the first of the Aladdin Autovent valve, this valve was redesigned a few years later into a model which fitted the majority of radiators. In 2013 I designed the first EasyFit isolator valve. I continue to develop new products for the company in addition to ensuring our manufacturing processes continue to improve.
3. What do you do in your down time?
I enjoy the escapism of music and am a keen guitar player. When time and my knees allow I enjoy running and run the odd 10k race to keep my fitness levels up. Walks in the sunshine (or rain!) with my dog help keep me sane.
4. What excites you about working for Aladdin?
Solving problems is my passion and working at NLB gives me the chance to do that designing new products continues to be exciting. It’s hard to beat seeing something that was once in your head packaged, ready for sale and going out the door on the way to customers.

1. Tell us a little bit about your background
After graduating with a degree in History and Politics I lived in Switzerland and worked briefly in the shipping industry. I oversee the day to day operations of the business encompassing everything from product procurement and customer service to sales and HR management. I focus on developing strategic business initiatives, streamlining processes, and optimizing resource management, ensuring Aladdin’s continued success. I also attend industry trade shows to keep up to date with the latest innovations.
3. What do you do in your down time?
Staying active is a core part of my life. I’m a regular at Spin and Step Classes and enjoy running having completed numerous half marathons, including the London Royal Parks Half four times. I love spending time outdoors with our beautiful Springador called Cocoa. When I’m not on the move I’m an avid reader, usually juggling a physical book and an audiobook for my dog walks. My love for travel endures with many more destinations on my bucket list.
4. What excites you about working for Aladdin
It’s exciting to contribute to a company which designs and makes ground breaking products contributing to the fight against climate change. Everyday is different at Aladdin and brings new challenges I love this variety and embracing the challenges.
